MSU lost all three doubles matches, with senior Mason Johnson and Jose Berardo performing the strongest. The duo lost to Dimitri Pippos and Kyle Wishing at No. 3 doubles, 8-4.
“We had a solid performance today,” said head coach Mel Purcell. “It was just not strong enough to earn the win against a very solid Middle Tennessee team. We will regroup and focus on the two tough home matches that we have this weekend, with Drake and Western Kentucky.”
In singles play, freshman Arthur Valle had a strong showing, forcing his match into a super tie-breaker. Valle earned a win in the first set 6-4 and then fell 6-3 to Pippos at No. 5 singles. Since the outcome of the match had already been decided the duo played the third set to a super tie-breaker, with Pippos earning a 10-5 win.
The Racers will return home to face Drake and Western Kentucky this weekend on the Bennie Purcell Tennis Courts. MSU will host the Bulldogs, Friday, March 18 at 10 a.m. and then battle with the Hilltoppers at noon Saturday, March 19.
