Men’s Tennis Returns to Courts after 17 Days Rest

The Murray State men's tennis team will return to action after a 17-day rest period and will be busy with six matches in the next two weeks. The Racers (1-4) will start the span off with a home match against Bethel, Tuesday, March 13 at 2:30 p.m. at the Bennie Purcell Tennis Courts. MSU will then travel to Clarksville to start the Ohio Valley Conference portion of the season, Friday, March 16 against Austin Peay (2 p.m.).
The Racers then return home for their first league match of the season on the Bennie Purcell Courts, when SIU Edwardsville comes to town, Sunday, March 18 for a noon match. MSU will then turn around and travel to Lexington, Ky., to face Kentucky, Monday, March 19 at 5 p.m.
Bethel heads into Tuesday's math with a 4-4 record after losing their last two matches. The last time the Wildcats were in action was March 8 when they fell (6-3) to Olivet Nazarene. In the past five years the Races and Bethel have met three times, with MSU holding a 2-1 advantage.
The Governors are 4-5 on the season and have lost their last two matches. APSU will face SIUE March 17 at the Austin Peay Tennis Courts before the Racers come to town. In the past five meetings, the Governors have a 3-2 advantage in the series, with the last MSU win coming March 25, 2009 in Murray, Ky.
SIUE is 2-6 on the year after losing its last match. In the past five years MSU and the Cougars have played each other twice, with the Racers earning wins in both matches. The last meeting was Feb. 13, 2010 at the Kenlake Tennis Center, with MSU taking the 5-2 win.
UK is currently 15-3 overall and 4-0 in the Southeastern Conference after winning its last five matches. The Wildcats will be playing Baylor at noon the same day that MSU comes to town. The Racers and UK have played each other each of the last five years, with the Wildcats earning wins in all five meetings. All five meetings have also taken place at the Hilary J. Boone Varsity Tennis Complex.
