Men’s Tennis Earns Second-Straight Win

The Murray State men's tennis team earned its second-straight win, with a 5-2 win over Bethel at the Bennie Purcell Tennis Courts in Murray, Ky.
“It was great to pick up the win today, especially after two weeks off,” said head coach Mel Purcell. “We now have more confidence heading into the first conference matches of the season at Austin Peay and at home against SIU Edwardsville.”
The Racers (2-4) started the match by winning the doubles point. Senior Jose Berardo and junior Tyler Jeffers started the match with an 8-2 win at No. 3 doubles over Raphael Sousa and Travis Hyman. Freshmen Aleks Mitric and Max McLean then secured the doubles point with an 8-5 win at No. 2 doubles over Paolo Vecchi and Eduardo Espinar.
Jeffers made the score 2-0, in favor of the Racers by defeating Espinar 6-2, 6-0 at No. 5 singles. Mitric added the third point with a 6-1, 6-0 win over Raphael Sousa at No. 6 singles.
Berardo secured the win for MSU with a 6-4, 6-2 win at No. 2 singles over Paolo Vecchi. Mclean then added the final point for the Racers with a 7-5, 6-3 win over Travis Hyman at No. 4 singles.
MSU is in action again, Friday, March 15 when they open Ohio Valley Conference action at Austin Peay at 2 p.m. at the Austin Peay Tennis Courts.
