The Murray State Racers host the Middle Tennessee Blue Raiders in their 138th meeting Tuesday at the CFSB Center in Murray, Ky. All Murray State games are heard over free radio on WFGE Froggy 103.7 FM and online at Froggy103.com and GoRacers.com. Neal Bradley is in his 25th season as the Voice of the Racers. Former MSU assistant coach Kenny Roth provides analysis. Free video streaming of the game will be seen on OVCDigitalNetwork.com. The American Sports Network is also airing the game with Dave Anderson and Mark Adams calling the action.
The Racers are 1-0 after opening the season at home Friday with a 105-55 win over Harris-Stowe for the first win for rookie head coach Matt McMahon. MSU got big games from Damarcus Croaker and Gee McGhee who combined for 41 points on 13-of-19 shooting. The 105 points was a record score in the 19 seasons of hoops played in the CFSB Center.
MSU's 16th head coach is Matt McMahon and he became the 12th to win his first game when the Racers beat HSSU Friday. McMahon assisted Steve Prohm in 104 wins at MSU in the last four seasons. Prohm took the job at Iowa State in early June and the Racers quickly named McMahon head coach.
The game marks the opener for MTSU after they won their exhibition game last Thursday at home over Faulkner 84-63. Giddy Potts led the Raiders with 27 points on 10-of-15 shooting while going 3-for-5 from behind the arc. Reggie Upshaw is MTSU's All-Conference USA preseason pick and he had a double-double with 20 points and 13 rebounds.
The Racers and Blue Raiders first played in 1930 and were regular Ohio Valley Conference rivals from 1952 to 2000. MSU leads the all-time series 103-34 and are 53-12 at home. The Raiders won at the CFSB Center in their last visit in 2013 80-62. The Racers have won three of the last four including a 68-49 in Murfreesboro last season.
The Racers have one of the best home court advantaged in the game as they play their 19th season in the CFSB Center. MSU is 56-7 (.888) at home since 2011 and 212-34 (.862) overall.Â
Although the Racers are playing this season without sophomore Kedrick Flomo, everyone associated with Murray State is thankful he is recovering well from emergency heart surgery. Flomo is home now with his family in Winston-Salem, N.C. Doctor's say he'll make a full recovery.
After the MTSU game, the Racers hit the road for their longest road swing of the season. In the eight days away from home, Murray State plays at Georgia (Nov. 20) and competes in three games in three days at the Gulf Coast Showcase (Nov. 23-25) in Estero, Fla. The Racers' first opponent is Milwaukee with their second game against either Pepperdine or Dequesne.Â
The game at Georgia will be streamed online by SEC Network Plus. The games in Florida will also have on-line streaming available.
