Murray State women's soccer improved to 4-2 on the season with a 2-0 win over Middle Tennessee Sunday at Cutchin Field in Murray, Ky.
Goals by Harriet Withers and Taylor Stevens led the Racers to a perfect home weekend after they defeated Louisiana Tech Friday 1-0.
The Racers came out quickly against the Blue Raiders (4-2-1), taking four shots within the first ten minutes of the match and were the aggressor through the first part of the match..
In the 10th minute, Shelby Haworth made a grab near the MSU goal and then sent it out to Taylor Richerson. She found Harriet Withers streaking down the field. Withers worked into a one-on-one chance with the MTSU goal keeper and found the back of the net for the third time this season and put the Racers up 1-0.
MSU continued to control the ball in the first half, leading MTSU in shot attempts 13-3 and went into the half with the lead 1-0.
Coming out of the half, the Racers battled back and forth with the Blue Raiders as they created some scoring chances. However, Racer goal keeper Shelby Haworth made saves on all five shots she faced to get the shutout.
In the 83rd minute, the Racers scored an insurance goal when Taylor Stevens scored in what was almost like a change up into the shallow corner of the goal thanks to a great pass by Destiny White.
The Racers earned their first win in their sixth meeting with Middle Tennessee.
The Racers get back on the pitch next Sunday (Sep. 20) at IUPUI.
The next home match for MSU is Sep. 27Â when Saint Louis visits Cutchin Field at 1 p.m.
