Heartbreaking Finish - Racers Fall At TSU
1/16/2016 10:17:00 PM | Men's Basketball
The Murray State Racers dropped a heartbreaker Saturday when a last second shot fell for the Tennessee State Tigers in a 73-71 final at the Gentry Center in Nashville, Tenn.
After a basket with 2.5 seconds, MSU's Justin Seymour took a shot at the buzzer that bounced off the rim.
The Racers fell to 8-10 overall and 2-3 in the Ohio Valley Conference as their first road win eluded them in their first loss at TSU since 2008.
Trailing 53-44 with 13:38 remaining, the Racers used a stretch of seven-straight free throws to ignite a game-changing run. Damarcus Croaker scored on a fast break and Seymour followed with his fourth 3-point basket of the game for a 14-2 Racer run and a 58-55 lead with 14:01 left. TSU tied the game at 60-60, but the Racers answered and went in front 65-60 with 5:26 on free throws from Wayne Langston and Bryce Jones.
Down by four points, Jeffery Moss scored with 1:05 left to make it a 71-69 game and after a defensive stop, Jones made a pair of free throws to tie it at 71-71.
After TSU scored with 2.5 seconds left, the Racers almost pulled off a miracle from one former high school quarterback to another. Moss hit Seymour with a length of the court pass and as he was falling out of bounds, Seymour hit the rim with a shot that had to go over the backboard.
Jones led the Racers with 18 points including going 10-of-10 from the line, while Langston added 14 points. Moss and Seymour each scored 12 points. Seymour was 4-of-5 from the 3-point line.
The Racers come home next week for a Thursday/Saturday home pair with Eastern Illinois and SIUE. EIU defeated Eastern Kentucky and Morehead State at home this week and will come to the CFSB Center with a 6-12 overall mark and 3-3 in the OVC.
