The Murray State Racers carry their first three-game win streak of the season into Martin, Tenn., Saturday when they take on the UT Martin Skyhawks at the Elam Center. The 3 p.m. tip will be aired on the CBS Sports Network with Jason Horowitz and Marc Jackson calling the action.
All Murray State games are heard over free radio on WFGE Froggy 103.7 FM and online at Froggy103.com and GoRacers.com. Neal Bradley is in his 25th season as the Voice of the Racers. Former MSU assistant coach Kenny Roth provides analysis and commentary. There will be no online video at OVCDigital.com for this game.
The Racers are coming off their first road win of the season when they took down Eastern Kentucky 75-71 in Richmond. The win was secured only after a 3-point basket by Justin Seymour with 22-seconds remaining and a pair of free throws with nine seconds by Gee McGhee. Damarcus Croaker scored a season-high 18 points on 7-of-11 shooting (3-of-5 from the 3-point line), while Wayne "Lefty" Langston was his usual steady self with 18 points and eight rebounds. Bryce Jones led the team with eight assists.
The Racers (12-10) improved to 5-3 in OVC play kept first place in the OVC West Division at the halfway mark of the OVC 16-game regular season. UTM lost at Eastern Illinois Thursday 82-74 to fell to 10-12 overall and 2-5 in the OVC West, two games behind the first place Racers in the loss column. UTM has dropped four straight.
The UTM game is the second of a three-game road swing for the Racers. MSU plays at Southeast Missouri Thursday (Feb. 4) in a game aired by ESPNU at 8 p.m. at the Show Me Center in Cape Girardeau, Mo. Counting Saturday's game at UTM, the Racers play five of their last eight games away from home.
It's also Coaches vs. Cancer Suits And Sneakers Week and we'll see the coaches from both MSU and UTM raise awareness for the fight against Cancer by wearing sneakers with their suits.
Saturday's game at UTM isn't the only game Racer fans have their eyes on. Former Murray State Coaches Billy Kennedy and Steve Prohm meet each other in College Station, Texas, in the SEC/Big 12 Challenge at 1 p.m. Saturday on ESPN. Kennedy gave Prohm his start in the business at Centenary in 1997. Prohm followed Billy to Murray and took over the Racer program in 2011 when Kennedy left for Texas A&M. It's the second time this season that former Racer coaches have faced off. Prohm's Iowa State squad defeated Mick Cronin's Cincinnati Bearcats 81-79 on Dec. 22.
