The Murray State Racers continue their fight for the Ohio Valley Conference West Division title when they travel to Edwardsville, Ill., to face the SIUE Cougars. The 7 p.m. tip in the Vadalabene Center is the second meeting between the two. The Racers won the first encounter at home (Jan. 23) 70-54.
All Murray State games are heard over free radio on WFGE Froggy 103.7 FM and online at Froggy103.com and GoRacers.com. Neal Bradley is in his 25th season as the Voice of the Racers. Former MSU assistant coach Kenny Roth provides analysis and commentary. Online video is available at OVCDigitalNetwork.com. Fox Sports Midwest will also air the game with Pat Paris and Joe Pott calling the action.
Racer senior Jeffery Moss has been fantastic in OVC play entering the SIUE game with a 15.9 scoring average. He's recorded three-straight 20-point games with 22 at UT Martin (Jan. 30), 26 at SEMO last Thursday and 27 Saturday at home against Austin Peay. Moss has hit nearly 60 percent from the field in those three games and 53 percent from the 3-point line. He became the 13th Racer to hit seven or more threes in a game at SEMO since the shot was introduced into the college game in 1986.
Â
The Racers are coming off a stunning home defeat to Austin Peay Saturday when they held a four-point lead with 40-seconds remaining. In a scene that left one's head spinning, the Govs hit a big 3-pointer and won the game 76-73 on a 7-0 run. A pair of MSU turnovers assisted the Govs comeback.
The first meeting between the Cougars and Racers saw MSU run away with a 70-54 win after leading 35-25 at the half. Bryce Jones scored 16 points and Jeffery Moss added 15 points. Damarcus Croaker tossed in 12 points and Wayne Langston scored 11. Gee McGhee led the way on the boards with eight rebounds.Â
After the game at SIUE Thursday, MSU comes home (Feb. 13) to host SEMO. Next week, the Racers get their bye week which means no weekday game. MSU will play in Clarksville, Tenn., against Austin Peay on Feb. 20.Â
Including the SIUE game, the Racers have five games remaining in the regular season. The eight-team OVC Tournament is just around the corner at Nashville's Municipal Auditorium (March 2-5).
