Racers Fall Short Against Eastern Illinois

The Murray State men's tennis team fell in their third conference match of the season as they were defeated at home by Eastern Illinois 5-2 on Friday.
The doubles point put the Racers behind early. Marcel Ueltzhoeffer and David Schrott fought hard at the No. 1 doubles but fell to their opponents 6-3. Partners Will True and Javier Villar played a close match with their opponents at the No. 3 doubles. Despite their best efforts, the pair fell 7-5, giving the Panthers the early 1-0 lead.
Ueltzhoeffer and Villar bounced back in the singles matches. Ueltzhoeffer found himself down early at the No. 1 singles as he lost his first set 6-7. He rallied back to defeat him opponent in the next two sets 6-3, 7-5. Villar came out on top early at the No. 2 singles as he won his first set 6-2. He kept his momentum going as he won his second set 7-5 to win his match.
Ueltzhoeffer and Villar, however, were the only two to win their matches. Srdjan Trosic came out to win his first set 6-2 but fell in the next two sets 6-4, 6-4. True played a close match at the No. 2 singles but fell 6-4, 7-6.
Murray State (2-13, 0-3) looks to bounce back as they take on SIU-Edwardsville on Saturday at Purcell Courts. The match is set to begin at 1 p.m. and will begin at the conclusion of the women's match.
