Racers Finish First In Margaret Simmons Invitational

The Murray State women's track and field team started off their outdoor season at home with the Margaret Simmons Invitational on Friday in Murray, Ky.
The Racers took full advantage of home field, coming in first with 232 points. The next highest was Kentucky Wesleyan with 137 points.
Sprints
In the 100-meter dash, Murray State had two runners finish in the top-five, with Norma Abdur-Rafia finishing second with a time of 12.45 and Jabreuna Brimlett finishing third with a time of 12.58.
Much like the 100-meter dash, the 200-meter dash saw Murray State place runners in the top-five. Hilary McAdam finished fourth with a time of 25.93 and Summer Wheeler finished fifth with a time of 26.34.
Aubrey Main placed first in the 100-meter hurdles with a time of 15.97 while Kristen Higgins came in third with a time of 16.34.
The 400-meter hurdles saw Mallory Unverfehrt come in second place with a time of 1:14.84.
Middle Distance
The Racers were once again at the forefront, with Daijah White and Tamdra Lawrence placing first and second in the 400-meter race with times of 1:00.03 and 1:01.04.
Long Distance
In the 1500-Meter race, Hilary McAdam ran the fastest time for the Racers, coming in third with a time of 4:58.99.
Amanda Parker and Katelyn Gilbert finished seventh and eighth for the next fastest times, coming in at 5:09.09 and 5:10.22.
Relays
The Racers had the fastest time in the 4 X 400 relay, as the tram of Lawrence, White, McAdam and Brimlett finished with a time of 4:01.07.
Murray State's "B" team placed fourth, as Woerner, Heil, Parker and Gilbert finished with a time of 4:29.75.
The 4 X 800 relay saw the Racers finish second and third with times of 10:17.44 and 10:20.31
Field Events
Aubrey Main finished second with a total mark of 1.62 m (5'3.75'') with Hope Tewes coming in fourth with a mark of 1.47m (4'9.75'').
Heil came in first in the pole vault with a mark of 3.20m ( 10'6'').
Woerner placed first in the long jump with a mark of 5.33m (17'6''). She also came in first for the triple jump with a mark of 10.69m (35' 1'').
The Shot put saw Jewel Wagner and Destiny Carey finish third and fourth with throws of 12.05m (39' 6.5'') and 11.74m (38' 6.25''). Christina Meinhardt finished sixth with a throw of 10.85m (35'7.25'')
Meinhardt and Carey came in third and fourth place for the Racers with throws of 35.55m (116'7'') and 35.15m (115'4'') in the Discus.
Wagner placed highest for Murray State in the Hammer Throw with a mark of 43.95m (144'2'') to place third. Rachel Gootee, Carey and Meinhardt would come in fourth, fifth and sixth respectively with throw of 40.10m (131'7''), 40.05m (131'5'') and 38.41m (126'0'').
In the Javelin throw, Higgins came in third with a mark of 30.98m (101'8'') and Alexus Groom came in fourth with a mark of 29.63m (97'2'').
Murray State travels to Nashville, Tenn., for their next meet; as they take part in the Black and Gold race, hosted by Vanderbilt from Friday, March 23 to Saturday, March 24.
