Racers Finish Second At The OVC Outdoor Championship - Break 4 X 100 School Record

The Murray State women's track and field team concluded action in the Ohio Valley Conference outdoor track and field championship with a second place finish in Cookeville, Tennessee on Saturday, May 12.
Coming in first was the host institute, Tennessee Tech with 151 points. Murray State placed second with 101 points, their highest finish since 2013 where they also finished second. Rounding out the top-three was Tennessee State with 87 points.
"I am extremely proud of all those who competed this weekend. They have been working for this championship since August and it paid off. They showed up with a championship in mind and the outcome showed I can't thank them enough for all their hard work and I'm happy to be their coach. I look forward to working with those who are moving on to the east regional and then getting started for next fall," said head coach Adam Kiesler after the championship.
Triple Jump
Jabreuna Brimlett was the lone Racer to compete in the triple jump, coming in seventh with a mark of 12.06m (39' 7''). Brimlett also set a new outdoor PR which bested her mark of 11.97m from the Missouri State Invitational back in 2016.
Discus Throw
Destiny Carey and Christina Meinhardt finished back-to-back with marks of 37.86m (124' 2'') and 36.72m (120' 6'').
4 X 100-Meter Relays
The team of Daijah White, Norma Abdur-Rafia, Brimlett and Tamdra Lawrence set a new school record in the 4 x 100-meter relays with a second place finish and a time of 45.37. Murray State had previously broken the record earlier this year in the Bobcat Invitational hosted by Texas State when they ran a 45.60.
Shot Put
Carey placed in the top-eight in the shot put, as she finished fifth with a mark of 13.54m (44' 5.25'') while Meinhardt finished with a mark of 11.50m (37' 8.25'').
100-Meter Hurdles
After finishing first in the 100-meter hurdles prelims, Brimlett  took first place in the finals with a time of 13.67.
400-Meter Dash
Abdur-Rafia and D'Myia Thornton competed in the 400-meter final, with Abdur-Rafia taking fifth place with a time of 55.97 and Thornton finishing with a time of 56.77.
100-Meter Dash
Lawrence took first place in the 100-meter dash to set the pace for Murray State with a time of 11.51, tying her PR from last year's OVC outdoor championship in Jacksonville, Alabama. White finished fifth with a time of 12.09 and Brimlett finished with a time of 12.50.
800-Meter Dash
In a tight race, Hilary McAdam won by just .02 seconds to take first place in the 800-meter dash with a time of 2:13.43.
200-Meter Dash
Both Lawrence and Abdur-Rafia set PRs in the 200-meter dash, as Lawrence finished second with a time of 23.43 and Abdur-Rafia finishing fifth with a time of 24.11.
5000-Meter Run
Four Racers were in the 5000-meter run, as Meagan Smith and Rebekah Priddy were the top two fastest for Murray State. Smith finished with a time of 18:43.78 and Priddy finished with a time of 18:46.12. Emily Flaherty finished with a time of 19:13.89 and Caroline Grogan finished with a time of 19:31.27.

Murray State finished fourth in the 4 x 400-meter relays, as the team of Thornton, Abdur-Rafia, McAdam, and Lawrence finished with a time of 3:51.85.
