The Game
After a big win Thursday at Eastern Illinois, the Murray State women's basketball team will look to complete their Prairie State two-step with a win Saturday at First Community Arena in Edwardsville at 1 p.m. against SIUE on ESPN+, WNBS 97.9 FM and the Zeno radio app.
Scouting The Cougars
SIUE's struggles this season continued Thursday when they lost at home to Austin Peay, 73-54. The loss drops the Cougars to 3-4 overall and 0-2 in OVC play.
Allie Troeckler currently leads the Cougars in scoring with 11.8 points per game, while Mikayla Kenard follows at 11.5. Troeckler also leads SIUE on the boards at 7.3 rebounds per game with Ajulu Thatha adding 6.9 per game in addition to her 8.7 points.
As a team this season, the Cougars are averaging 65.3 points per game, while allowing 63.6, but have struggled at the free throw line where the rank last in the OVC at just 58.5-percent.
A Win Saturday Would...
A win Saturday would give MSU its first weekend sweep on the road under head coach Rechelle Turner.
Magic Number
Four players reached double-digits in scoring for Murray State Thursday at Eastern Illinois, moving the Racers to 4-0 on the season when four or more players score 10-plus points.
Breakout Performance
Freshman Bria Sanders-Woods came off the bench Thursday to post the Racers' second highest point total with 19 in addition to five rebounds, three assists and a steal. The Oklahoma native also had the hot hand Thursday going 6-for-11 from the floor and a perfect 7-for-7 from the free throw line.
That's Why They Call Them Free
Free throws played a key role in Murray State's win Thursday night in Charleston, as the Racers went 20-for-24 from the charity stripe, which was a season-high in makes and percentage (.833). In the fourth quarter alone, MSU went 14-for-15, missing the first attempt of the stanza, only to make each of the next 14. Two players were perfect at the line Thursday with Macey Turley going 8-for-8 and Bria Sanders Woods going 7-for-7.
Deep Analysis
Another indicator of the Racers trending upwards this season are their averages in "analysis" stats. So far this season MSU is either keeping pace with or has surpassed last year's total in all four categories. The biggest increase so far, thanks mostly to the increased height of this year's team has been in points in the paint where the Racers have picked up 8.2 points per game.
