Murray State Meets SIUE In Saturday Road TiltÂ
By the time the Murray State Racers tip off against the SIUE Cougars on Saturday, they will have not played in nine days. The Murray State Racers travel to Edwardsville, Illinois for the 3 p.m. game at the Vadalabene Center. What was supposed to be a two game week, Covid protocols postponed MSU's Thursday game at Eastern Illinois which followed a postponement of MSU's home game the Saturday before against Tennessee Tech. The Racers (11-2, 1-0 OVC) won their league opener (Dec. 30) at home over Southeast Missouri 106-81. SIUE (6-7, 0-0 OVC) finally gets to play their Ohio Valley Conference opener after having Covid problems of their own. Their last three games (Belmont, UT Martin and Austin Peay) were postponed, meaning the Cougars will be playing for the first time in 18 days since their last game before Christmas (Dec. 21) against South Alabama.
Covid Alters OVC Schedule
There were four games postponed on New Year's Day including the Racers at home against TTU. The Racers have not had any problems with Covid to this point in the season. There have been a total of seven OVC games postponed and rescheduled since the first of the year. With two Monday make up games coming, the Racers will play six games in two weeks starting with their home game (Jan. 13) against Tennessee State.
Racers In The National Rankings
The Racers are having one of their better offensive seasons in recent memory and they've had a bunch over the years. Entering OVC play, the Racers are making shots at a 50 percent clip and rank seventh nationally in NCAA D-I. From the 3-point line, the Racers are hitting 38 percent and rank 35th. On the boards, the Racers' 7.4 rebound margin puts them 37th in the nation. The Racers have the seventh-best scoring offense in the nation at 84.5 points per game.
Brown & Williams Continue To Climb MSU Career Ladder
Murray State's Tevin Brown and KJ Willams have played in a combined 64 wins in their careers and as the calendar turns to 2022, they still have several games to further cement their spot as a Racer Great. In the win over SEMO (Dec. 30), Brown became the third racer to reach 1,000 points, 500 rebounds and 350 assists. With his first rebound at EIU, KJ Williams will become the ninth Racer to score 1,000 points and grab 700 rebounds.
