Murray State track and field opens inaugural MVC Outdoor Championships with a top-eight finish and a finals qualifier.
Murray State track and field opened day one of the inaugural Missouri Valley Conference Outdoor Championships with a top-eight finish, a finals qualifier, and two leaders in the heptathlon.
Â
Alexis Meloche highlights the day as she defied the odds and placed eighth in the javelin with a 39.25m mark.
Â
"Alexis scored when she wasn't supposed to and those are things you need to have happen in a championship setting," said head coach Adam Kiesler.
Â
Faith Bostick earns a finals spot in the 200m dash with a time of 24.22 seconds, while Jenna Pauly and Meghan Fletcher show promise in the heptathlon.
Â
Pauly currently leads the heptathlon with 3333 points ahead of Fletcher, who is currently second in the event with 3172 points. They will compete in the long jump, javelin, and 800m run to wrap up the event tomorrow.
Â
"We always talk about how those who start competing in day one of each meet create the tone and momentum for the rest of the team and the multis did just that! They had a great day one!" said Kiesler.
Â
The Racers will fight for five gold medals tomorrow.
