2005: Struck out 48 in 47.1 innings with 30 walks (a 1.60 ratio, 9.13 per 9 innings)...opposing batters hit .278 against him...had a season-high eight strikeouts twice, once as part of a two-hit performance at Louisville...struck out eight and allowed four hits in six innings in getting the win against Arkansas-Little Rock...2004: Had a season-high eight strikeouts in his first career game at MSU against Alabama-Birmingham on Feb. 22...had seven appearances and four starts.
BEFORE MSU: Saw limited action last season at Mississippi State in 2003, throwing three innings in three games...allowed only one unearned run on three hits...opposing batters hit .250...redshirted the 2002 season...had a combined 11-5 record in his two seasons at Lemon Bay High under coach Cary Humphrey...sported a 3.17 prep earned-run average...struck out 117 over two seasons at LBHS...had a 7-4 mark in his senior season (2001) with a 2.80 ERA en route to helping the team to a 22-10 record and district title...named to all-area second-team honors...also played first base, hitting .326 and earning the team’s Most Improved Fielder Award...went 4-1 in his junior season (2000) with a 3.87 ERA...went 5-2 with two saves and a 2.90 ERA with the LBHS junior-varsity team in 1999...played AAU ball with the Manatee Titans, claiming an 8-1 record and 0.66 ERA...also lettered in golf at Lemon Bay.
PERSONAL: Born Jacob Evan Ociesa on March 4, 1983, in Venice, Fla., the son of Dana and Leslie Ociesa...has one sister, Cassi (20)...graduated from Lemon Bay High with a 4.2 grade-point average...enjoys golfing, fishing and boating...majoring in engineering graphics and design.
