The Murray State Racers host the Middle Tennessee State Blue Raiders Tuesday at the CFSB Center in a 7:30 p.m. tip. The game is the 136th between the two old Ohio Valley Conference rivals as they competed together in the league from 1952-2000. Tuesday's game is the second game of a women's/men's double-header. Murray State hosts Kennsaw State at 5:15 p.m.
The Racers and Blue Raiders can be heard on Racer Radio on WGFE 103.7 FM and online at Froggy103.com and GoRacers.com. Live online streaming video is available from the OVC Digital Network at no charge.
The Racers lead the all-time series 102-33 and are playing MTSU for the first time since a New Year's Day game at the CFSB Center in 2003.
MSU (2-3) is coming off a 75-67 loss Saturday at Auburn. The Racers have alternated wins and losses through the first five games and are undefeated at home, but winless on the road. MTSU (4-1) won their first four games, all at home, before dropping their first road game of the season to Florida 79-59.
Jarvis Williams is now leading the Racers in scoring and rebounding after the Auburn game. Williams is scoring 14.6 points per game and grabbing a second-best in the OVC 11.0 boards per game. Three other Racers are scoring in double-figures with Dexter Fields and Cameron Payne at 14.0 and Jeffery Moss scoring at a 13.0 clip. Payne leads the Racers with 28 assists and has committed only 12 turnovers. He also leads MSU with 11 steals in the first five games.
Shawn Jones leads MTSU with 21.3 points per game and is also their rebound leader at 7.8. MTSU has blocked 24 shots in their first five games this season with Jones leading the way with seven. Â
The Racers are 2-0 at the CFSB Center this season with wins over Brescia (Nov. 12) 97-69 and Bethel (Nov. 19) 91-64. MTSU marks the first time this season MSU has hosted an NCAA D-I team. The Racers are 184-32 (.850) in their 16th season in the building and are 75-10 (.877) against non-conference opponents.
After the game with MTSU, the Racers get ready for a trip west to Moraga, Calif., and a Saturday game against St. Mary's. Â The game with the Gaels marks a return game after their classic 2012 meeting at the CFSB Center when both teams were ranked in the top-15 and legendary broadcaster Dick Vitale called the game on the Racers' home court.
