The Murray State women's soccer squad hits the road this weekend for a pair of games at SIUE and Southeast Missouri in Edwardsville, Ill., and Cape Girardeau, Mo.
Game time Friday at SIUE is 7 p.m. at Korte Stadium and Sunday's game at Houck Stadium against SEMO is 1 p.m.
The Racers (6-5, 2-0 OVC) are on a school-record five-game winning streak and 2-0 start in the Ohio Valley Conference. Murray State defeated Tennessee Tech and Jacksonville State at home last week each by 3-0 scores. MSU's five-game win streak is only two from matching the program record for the longest unbeaten streak of seven from 2008. MSU has outscored the opponent 13-2 in the winning streak.
The Racers won the last time they played away from home (Sept. 14) with a 1-0 victory at Saint Louis.
The SIUE Cougars(4-4-1, 1-0 OVC) are 3-1-1 at Korte Stadium this season. The Southeast Missouri Redhawks (4-3, 1-0 OVC) have seen all seven of their matches this season end in a shutout.
Murray State's Rebecca Bjorkvall and Shelby Haworth were named Ohio Valley Conference Defensive and Goalkeeper of the Week in voting conducted by the league's sports information directors. Bjorkvall, a junior from Aland, Finland, played every minute last weekend and had two assists in MSU's win over TTU. Haworth, a freshman from Hilliard, Ohio, minded the net for every minute of back-to-back shutouts for the Racers. She lowered her goals-against-average to 0.99 in recording her second and third shutouts in eight starts. Senior Julie Mooney has eight goals to rank first in the OVC and seventh in NCAA D-1.
MSU has back-to-back shutouts to start OVC play for the first time since 2008 when they won 1-0 at Southeast Missouri and 3-0 at Eastern Illinois. The Racers are 2-0 in conference play for the first time since 2009 when they won road games at JSU and TTU.
Eight different players have scored this season for MSU.
Heading into the weekend, the Racers have the early lead in the OVC standings with six points on their two wins, ahead of Morehead State with four points. SEMO, SIUE, Jacksonville State and Austin Peay all have three points.
The game at SIUE Friday will be carried live by the OVC Digital Network with online streaming free video.
