Bio
Darren Edgington is in his second year at Murray State as strength and conditioning coach, after serving in the same capacity at the University of Mississippi.
Edgington is responsible for all strength and conditioning duties for the Racer football, baseball, soccer, volleyball and track & field teams.
While at Ole Miss (2005-08), he worked with the football program and designed and implemented the strength and conditioning programs for the women’s basketball program that made an NCAA Elite-8 appearance. Edgington also worked with the Ole Miss soccer team.
From 1994-2005, Edgington served as assistant strength and conditioning coach at Middle Tennessee State, designing and implementing the strength and conditioning programs for the school’s Olympic sports, as well as assisting with football.
A 1997 cumlaude graduate from MTSU with a degree in wellness & fitness, Edgington earned his master’s in health, physical education, recreation, and safety from MTSU in 2000.
Edgington is a certified strength and conditioning coach through the Collegiate Strength and Conditioning Coaches Association (CSCCa}, International Sports Sciences Association (ISSA), National Association of Speed and Explosion (NASE), and USA Weightlifting. He is also a certified USA Weightlifting Referee.
In May, Edgington was named a Master Strength and Conditioning Coach by the CSCCa. He is one of 80 coaches in the country with this certification.
Edgington produced a DVD entitled Functional ACL Pre-Hab Exercises, as well as garnering a feature article on ESPN.com about his training program for the Ole Miss women’s basketball team.
He trained WNBA Rookie of the Year Armintie Price while she played at Ole Miss.
Edgington is a U.S. Naval submarine veteran having served from 1984-90. He is married to the former Julie Mayo and they reside in Murray.
