Velvet Milkman serves as the Senior Woman Administrator for the Murray State Athletic Department.
She is also the highly successful head coach of the MSU Women's Golf program.
For over a decade, Milkman has guided MSU Golf. During this time the program has enjoyed much success. Milkman has led the Racers to six Ohio Valley Conference titles, including three straight from 2001-2004.
In recognition of her efforts, Milkman has been named Ohio Valley Conference Coach of the Year six times. During her tenure at Murray State, Milkman has coached twenty-four Ohio Valley All Conference Players, and a conference leading six Ohio Valley Conference Players of the Year. She has also had twelve players named to the Ohio Valley Conference All Tournament Team. Three of her players have gone on to play professionally.
Success for the Racers has not been limited to the golf course under Coach Milkman. Twenty-one times, her players have been selected to the National Golf Coaches Association All-Scholar Golf Team, and ten players have received the Ohio Valley Conference Medal of Honor.
The Racers have won the Conference Academic Achievement Award for Women’s Golf every year since its inception in 2005-2006. During the 2006-2007 season, the Lady Racer Golf Team had the tenth highest team grade point of all NCAA division one schools in the country.
She is also a fifteen-year member of the National Women’s Golf Coaches Association.
Milkman earned a Bachelor of Science Degree in Finance from the University of Alabama in 1987 and in 1991 she earned a Masters of Business Administration degree from Murray State University.
At Alabama, she was part of an outstanding squad that finished ninth in the 1987 NCAA Championship. After her playing days she served as a student assistant coach for the Crimson Tide.
Prior to starting the Murray State Women’s golf program, Milkman served as an assistant golf professional at Temple Hills County Club in Franklin, Tennessee.
A native of Murray, Velvet is married to Martin Milkman, an economics professor at Murray State University. In their spare time, the two enjoy traveling and spending time on Kentucky Lake.
