MarTeze Hammonds is in his four year as a member of the Murray State Athletics Department and his second year as Academic Counselor. Hammonds served as an Educational Assistant in the athletics department for one year.
Hammonds earned his bachelor’s of science degree in Theatre (Dance/Organizational Communication) in 2005 and will earn a master’s of science degree in organizational communication in December 2006.
Hammonds duties as the department’s academic counselor will include assisting in the management of a comprehensive advising and counseling program for student-athletes, assisting the coaches in assigned sports with the academic requirements of their recruits, establishing, maintaining and monitoring the academic records of assigned teams and developing information on academic obligations, athletic eligibility and personal problems of the student-athletes in order to assist them in maintaining appropriate academic progress.
Hammonds has also served as an intern for the Congressional Award Foundation in Washington D.C., and as a graduate assistant lab instructor for Murray State’s Department of Organizational Communication.
As a student, Hammonds earned the Outstanding Graduate Academic Achievement Award in 2006, was selected as the 2005 Outstanding Residential Collegiate Student and Who’s Who Among Collegiate Students in 2005. In 2004, Hammonds was as the Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity College Brother of the Year on the local, district and regional level. He was a national finalist for the award.
Hammonds began acting at the age of six and has appeared in many productions. He is a regular in shows at Murray’s Playhouse in the Park and in MSU’s theatre department productions.
